An Update on My Challenge to Rick Warden

That’s from Rick Warden’s blog, note that nowhere does it say any debate with him can ONLY be in text. Obviously aware of how quickly his supposed ‘proofs’ of the existence of his version of his particular god would fall apart under a sustained real time debate, Rick has moved the goal posts in an attempt to avoid such a thing ever happening.

So desperate to avoid a debate is Rick, that he’d rather side with the antisemite, homophobe, and racist ‘Keith Roberts’ aka GodsWordIsLaw, Syecular, and hapless fuck-a-ma-bob PiltdownSupermn, in his claims that I’m a bit of a rotter.

Truly, Rick’s courage knows no beginning.

Piltdown Superman’s Week of Catastrophic Failure Continues

In the week running up to his ‘Deny Reality Day’ on the 12th, Bob ‘Piltdown Superman’ Sorensen has been blogging and retweeting an unending stream of creationist arsewash. So far this week he’s claimed that just because layers of sediment can be laid down rapidly they all were (debunked), that soft tissue was found in T Rex bones (debunked), and has retweeted the following today –

“Surgeon Says Human Body Did Not Evolve: Baylor University Medical Center surgeon Joseph Kuhn described serious… “

– referring to this article on the website of the Institute for Creation Research which makes the following claims –

In a recent paper titled “Dissecting Darwinism,” Baylor University Medical Center surgeon Joseph Kuhn described serious problems with Darwinian evolution.1 He first described how life could not possibly have come from chemicals alone, since the information residing in DNA required an input from outside of nature.2

He then addressed Darwinism’s inability to account for the all-or-nothing structure of cellular systems, including the human body. As a medical doctor, Kuhn not only knows the general arrangement of the human body’s visible parts, he also understands the interrelated biochemical systems that sustain and regulate all of those parts. He recognized that the human body contains an all-or-nothing system in which its core parts and biochemicals must exist all at once for the body to function.

With a week of failure so far, one has to wonder how well this particular group of claims stands up to scrutiny. Not well, is the answer –

Well, there’s one doctor in the world who thinks he knows a lot about evolution, and that he knows more than evolutionary biologists. In fact, he knows that evolution is rife with problems, is pretty much defunct, and that a new paradigm is in order.  What is that paradigm? Intelligent design, of course.

The doctor is Joseph Kuhn, a surgeon at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and he’s just published an article in the Proceedings of that center, which I presume is a respectable, peer-reviewed journal.  Well, it isn’t respectable any more, for Kuhn’s article, ”Dissecting Darwinism” (free at the link), is merely a cobbled-together list of canards from the Discovery Institute (DI).  It’s poorly written, dreadful, full of scientific errors, and the journal should not only be ashamed of it, but retract it. (read the rest here)

Unsurprisingly Bob has linked to something that’s utterly untrue. Seriously, you think he’d eventually tire of being wrong all the fucking time.

Keep Up the ‘Good Work’ Guys!

I encourage non-believers and moderates alike to visit the following pages….

Sye Ten Bruggencate’s aggressive gloating site

Bob Sorensen’s ‘Question Evolution Day’

Rick Warden’s Templestream

Eric Hovind’s ‘Creation Today’ (apparently featuring the Pilsbury Doughboy)

VenomfangX’s Youtube channel

Matt Slick’s CARM

Dan Marvin’s ‘Debunking Atheists’ blog

Why do I want you to go to those sites? Because they do more harm to the cause of religious belief than I could, even if I blogged for a thousand years. Whether it’s Syecular bullying his way around the atheist blogs and podcasts, repeating his circular claptrap, Bob shutting down any dissenting voices on his Facebook wall, Rick Warden presenting a challenge to atheists that he is incapable of meeting, Eric Hovind telling lies to children that will prove to be utterly ruinous to their future faith, Shawn VenomfangX parroting Hovind to the same ends, PPSIMMONS making themselves look like idiots with every single word they type or say, Dan Marvin demonstrating just how demented Christianity can make a previously reasonable man, or Matt Slick insisting that only Calvinists are ‘true’ Christians….all of these people are driving their religion closer to its inevitable end.

Please, encourage all the atheists, agnostics, and moderate believers you know to familiarise themselves with the work of these individuals, spread the words of these apologists for Christianity, show people the extreme dementia fundamentalism causes.

As I say, I could never harm the poison of religion as much as these men do. Keep up the good work, chaps, you’re killing your religion slowly but surely with everything you say and do.

Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dipshit

“Considering his hatred, ego and strong motivation, it’s scary to think what he may be like 10 years from now – the next Joseph Stalin?”

Really? You think that’s a possibility Rick? You think I might be leading a Bolshevik revolution, and taking control of World War Two era Russia within a decade? Do you think that I’ll be renaming Volgograd after myself in 2022? Or are you actually, as always, speaking out of your spectacularly talkative (though only in text)  arse?

Hilarious. Read the original ‘thoughts’ of Bob and Rick here.

An Oldie But Goldie from the Sensuous Curmudgeon

This kind of argument — which is essentially saying “I don’t believe it!” — could be employed against more than evolution. A creationist could look at the current totality of English history, or the biosphere, or whatever, and impulsively exclaim that it’s “impossible” for such to have occurred without outside guidance. But is it really?

If England is impossible, so of course is the rest of human history. So are you, because the innumerable events leading to your conception are vast beyond comprehension. Everything is impossible to such a mentality. At what point does reductio ad absurdum intervene to put an end to this nonsense?

‘The odds against life evolving are HUGE NUMBER!! DERP DERP DERP!’ Creatards regularly bleat, like so many brain damaged sheep. Read why their reasoning is fatally borked here.

What A Pity

A Christian Writes on Creationism and ID

While I’m briefly taking a break from my break (if you see what I mean), I may as well point you at this rather excellent article on the ‘Upside Down World’ blog. In it, Rebecca Trotter makes a solid argument for why teaching children Creationism and ID is a terrible idea for Christian parents. People like Hovind, Ham, Comfort, Cienkowski, Marvin, and Sorensen could do well to take some of this in.

Glen Morton who published more than twenty articles in the Creation Science Research Quarterly in the 80s says:

The data I was seeing at work was not agreeing with what I had been taught as a Christian. Doubts about what I was writing and teaching began to grow. . . day after day, my job forced me to confront that awful data. . . Eventually, by 1994 I was through with young-earth creationism. Nothing that young-earth creationists had taught me about geology had turned out to be true. I took a poll of all eight of the graduates from ICR’s school who had gone into the oil industry and were working for various companies. I asked them one question, “From your oil industry experience, did any fact that you were taught at ICR, which challenged current geological thinking, turn out in the long run to be true?” That is a very simple question. One man, who worked for a major oil company, grew very silent on the phone, sighed, and softly said, “No!” A very close friend that I had hired, after hearing the question, exclaimed, “Wait a minute. There has to be one!” But he could not name one. No one else could either.
Being through with creationism, I was almost through with Christianity. I was thoroughly indoctrinated to believe that if the earth were not young and the flood not global, then the Bible was false. I was on the very verge of becoming an atheist. [Emphasis mine]

As I say, it’s an excellent read, and once I’m out of my current podcast retirement I’ll be asking Rebecca to appear on Fundamentally Flawed.

Rick Warden, Whiner for Jesus

Cowardly Christian ‘apologist’, Rick Warden, has spewed out a mighty word huff on his utterly pathetic excuse for a blog. In it he accuses me and Jim Gardner of being liars, frauds, a bit too sweary for his fragile innocent ears, and anything else he can think of (including claiming that I ‘hate’ his god, which is amazing considering that such a being doesn’t exist and is therefore impossible to hate).

You can read the entirety of his rant here, where you’ll see him citing evidence of my wickedness from such reliable, and unbiased sources as Syecular Sye and (really doing his argument a lot of good) Keith ‘godswordislaw’ Roberts!

I’ve replied to him, but in case he deletes it, I’ve copied here –

Rick, I think you’re going to have to look into things in a little more detail, as you’ll struggle to find a single instance where I have lied.

Sye threatened me with libel after I suggested that he’d made a certain video – a video that he boasted he was going to make, and then hosted on his own website with the comment ‘here you go!’ linking it from my blog! When I, quite reasonably in the circumstances, assumed that he had made it, he got all huffy, denied having done any such thing, and then refused to name the person who had.

A bit of digging and pushing of Sye eventually caused the truth to come out – it wasn’t Sye who had made it, but his fellow liar for money Eric Hovind. As soon as I had that information I corrected my previous statements.

As for your quoting of the Christians For A Moral America blog….well, that’s yet another example of how you should do some research before you start furiously hammering at your keyboard! That blog is run by a twitter user called @godswordislaw, a raging homophobe, racist, misogynist, antisemite troll. Someone who has lied about having a medical doctorate, at best this is an account which is satire (and rather poor satire at that) or, at worst, the work of someone who is dangerously deluded. Either way, siding with Keith ‘godswordislaw’ Roberts, a known liar and fraud, does little to support your argument.

Rick, my challenge to YOU was for you to appear on the podcast and defend your risible argument. My reasons for not wanting to debate in the comments of your blog are clear – I have spent many many hours discussing your ‘evidence’ over the last year, and I just don’t have the stomach for a series of lengthy text exchanges when the same discussion could be had in a fraction of the time on the phone. Far from this being a method of burying debate, the podcast would reach MORE people than either blog could manage, given the fact that in December alone it was downloaded over 190,000 times.

As for your complaint that I swear….boo fucking hoo! Grow up, Rick.

It seems to me that Rick is coming up with any excuse he can muster to explain his repeated refusal to man up and take on a live debate, speaking volumes about just how weak his position is.

What’s The Point?

What an absolute waste of time this is.

I’m taking a break
