thoughts from a non-theist

On Anonymous Posts

Right, there’s been a steady increase in anonymous posters, so I’ve decided to change things in a way I’d hoped to have been able to avoid.

As of now you can’t post anonymously, I’ll leave all the other options available so it’s not going to be hard to post your thoughts, but you can’t do it without leaving a name from here on in.

  1. So much for free speech. A lot of newspapers have had issues when they tried to get posters to use their real names. Considered anti-democratic.

  2. I have politely asked people to show some manners and use thee names (or at the very least a username) for weeks, but when I saw that people were ignoring that request, and there were threads with numerous anon posters calling each other names, I decided I had to act

  3. Ultimately a blog ISN'T a democracy, so to claim that asking people to use at the very least a user name is 'anti-democratic' is pure nonsense.Anyway, what's your problem? You've a user name that gives nothing away about who you are, and your blogger profile is unavailable – how have you been prevented from posting?

  4.      It took a threat to my safety to make that change. But when that came up, I removed anonymous posting right away.

  5. //So much for free speech.//You're confusing free speech with the right to behave as you please in a private domain. A blog is a private domain. The fact that your actions are regulated in a private domain does not alter the fact that you still have complete and unregulated access to free speech in the public domain. You have no right to free speech in a private domain.Alex://Ultimately a blog ISN'T a democracy, so to claim that asking people to use at the very least a user name is 'anti-democratic' is pure nonsense.//Excellent point.

Write what you like, but don't cry if you act like a dick and get banned for it
